Housekeeping #2: We're all very tired
Hello all,
Due to a combination of travel, exhaustion, and emotional malaise (rest in peace, Pope Francis) the White Rose editorial team is rather snowed under this week. We’re including the new events we have so far below, and please see the last newsletter for repeating items. Fingers crossed we’ll be up and running again for May 10, and remember, if you’re ever interested in getting involved, drop us a line at [email protected]
Best,
Katherine, James, Jackie, Lee

Tomaquag Museum Lunch & Learn: Sequan: Historical Perpetuity Through Relations and Time
When: Monday, April 28, 12:00pm
Where: online
Brad Lopes (Aquinnah Wampanoag) will acknowledge and speak on the importance of interrelatedness, our non-human relatives, and the relationship with time in the Dawnland. Late March and April are significant periods of time for many Indigenous people in the Northeast of Turtle Island, with the emergence out of winter, the beginning of spring/a new year, and the many moving relatives at this time. In this talk, Brad will discuss this historic relationship with these relatives and this sense of time, as well as how this has continued today as both an act of cultural perpetuity and preservation. Finally, in a further effort to decolonize, Brad will explore a future that asks us to understand our own sense of time and relations with the non-human world.
No Cuts to Care State Budget Rally
When: Saturday, May 03, 12:00pm
Where: Rhode Island State House, 82 Smith Street, Providence, RI 02903
Our healthcare system is under attack as never before. Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security is on the federal chopping block and if Trump’s cuts go through, each and every one of us will pay the price. In the face of this crisis, Governor McKee’s current state budget doubles down on Trump’s cuts, proposing $25 million in hospital cuts, failing to properly fund our community health clinics and cutting safe staffing in our nursing homes. This direction is dead wrong.
Instead, we need a transformative healthcare budget that protects and invests in Medicaid and raises revenue through tax cuts on the wealthiest among us. We need elected officials to stand up and fight for every Rhode Islander and say no to Medicaid cuts in Washington and here at home.
Join SEIU Healthcare 1199NE at the State House and say NO to a healthcare budget that relies on a cuts-only approach and YES to a budget that invests in a healthier Rhode Island!
